International Women's Day 2025

03-03-2025 to 09-03-2025
At the Sacred Heart Language College, we find International Women’s Week a week to embrace the importance of being women and the impact women have in society. This year, International Women’s Week took place from the 3rd to 9th of March.
During the week, we had three women speak to us, Year 9’s, about what they do. The first speaker was a representative from St Luke’s Hospice, Kate Gammell, who spoke to us about the importance of a hospice and the resilience each member must have. She mentioned many managing roles, like the CEO, which was filled by a woman. By speaking to us, she depicted the importance and impact of women in society through their careers.
The second speaker was a doctor, Eva Fiorenzo, who spoke to us about her demanding experiences, the pathway to becoming a doctor and how hard she had worked to get to where she was. She talked us through the study of medicine from GCSE to university. She told us that the sky is the limit and women, like ourselves, can do anything we put our mind to.
Our last speaker was Sister Rosemary from the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions. She spoke to us about how becoming a sister was never her plan and how she was interested in the music industry, but life led her to discover Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions. Her aim was to continue to travel around the world, inspiring so many in the process. She showed us that women are so resilient even if we end up in the twists and turns of life, we always have the right path, waiting for us to follow. Two of these inspirational women spent their secondary years in our school and showed us when we grow up, we too can be influential and pave our own paths to success. And this is the true meaning of International Women’s Day!
