The Sacred Heart Language College - No Pens Day 2024

Creative Connections: A Successful No Pens Day
Wednesday 27th November was No Pens Day, and students across the school embraced creative and interactive learning. In Year 8, they acted out scenes from The Giver, bringing the story to life through drama. Elsewhere, students tackled tricky riddles, debated lively topics, and even whipped up some delicious lemon meringue pies in the kitchen. The day was a great success, with students fully engaged and enjoying the chance to learn in engaging and exciting ways.
The RE and Languages department merged the No-Pen Day and STEM week together to create interactive and interesting lessons. AI is becoming such a prominent part of our society, and the RE class today promoted a thoughtful discussion. The Language department focused on showing how French and Spanish speaking countries have contributed to scientific research, such as an innovation of Medicine done in France.
The Classics Lesson was bursting with a playful and delightful environment. With a focus on Ancient Greece and Rome, the pupils made their own mosaics. In addition, other artefacts were brought out for the pupils to try.
In Geography they did a depiction of the three stages of a hurricane: preparation, response and recovery. Pupils put time and effort into their roleplays, whilst a lively atmosphere was maintained. Louise McDermott, in10A, said it was “a great visual task that allows us to learn whilst also being entertained.”
The English class was nothing short of cheerful. The classroom was turned into a court room and students were split up and argued their case. Not only was the whole experience very lively and thought-provoking, but it also helped instil confidence within the pupils to be able to share their opinions with their class.
The day was a great success, with students fully engaged and enjoying the chance to learn in a variety of engaging and exciting ways.
